Please note that when considering the purchase of the Kendrick Dew Remover System, you will need to purchase one of our controllers along with the heaters. The heaters do not operate without one.
The Kendrick Dew Remover System has been the industry standard for effective dew removal and prevention on all optical surfaces where moisture condensation is a problem for many years now. Kendrick is the original innovator of these systems and we continue to lead the marketplace with our innovative product design and concepts. Our system has heaters for almost all the optical components used in amateur astronomy, several controllers with different levels of functionality and is the most sophisticated on the market.
Repeated field testing on many types of optical surfaces under many conditions and our thousands of satisfied customers has proven the effectiveness of our product over and over. Amongst other things, our system has these attractive features:
- Energy efficiency. Our controllers use almost zero power except for that required to illuminate the LEDs (which is VERY little!). Rather than use energy, our controllers actually conserve battery power by having programmable settings to control the heaters for precise application of heat. The systems are programmable with variable duty cycle, temperature variance, dewpoint variance or set temperature, depending on which controller you use.
- It is lightweight.
- High quality build. We use only the best quality components in our system, whether it be controllers or heaters. We do not compromise on the integrity or performance capabilities of our product.
- It will keep every optical surface you are using free of moisture in many different circumstances.
- High quality circuit boards in our controllers. We use "double sided" circuit boards. This gives our heater jacks extra strength to help prevent the solder breaks that will occur on single sided boards from the stress and strain of plugging and unplugging heaters.

THE #2002 PREMIER DIGITAL CONTROLLER
OUR TOP OF THE LINE CONTROLLER!
We are pleased to announce the introduction of our new digital PREMIER POWER CONTROLLER. It is the most advanced controller of its type available with many new features not seen before. For you astro imagers out there, the Premier controller is completely RFI (radio frequency clean) free.
Since the introduction of the Kendrick Dew Remover System in 1994, we have had many requests for a more advanced controller. These customers have wanted more control over the heaters on their telescopes. We have taken it one step further and have provided a platform that will offer centralized power management of telescope accessories and dew prevention heaters.
Now, various devices, accessories and heaters can be powered and controlled from one central device. Now, not only heaters, but accessories such as Dobsonian cooling fans, digital setting circles, illuminated eyepieces, Telescope motor drives, Astro Systems Dewguard secondary mirror heaters, motorized focusers etcetera can be powered from the controller (Some plug modification may be required).
When used for dew prevention, the PREMIER POWER CONTROLLER is programmable over a number of different parameters explained under PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS.
The controller's many new features are:
- Built in low voltage cut-off (a Kendrick standard!) Outputs 1 through 5 only.

PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS
The Premier Controller is programmable in the following parameters:
- Duty Cycle. Outputs 1 through 4 can be individually programmed to operate anywhere from 10% to 100% on.
- Temperature variance. Outputs 1 and 2 can be individually programmed to operate within a user specified temperature variance (ie: 5º above air temperature).
- Dewpoint variance. Outputs 1 and 2 can be individually programmed to operate within a user specified temperature variance (ie: 5º above dewpoint).
- Set temperature. Outputs 1 and 2 can be individually programmed to operate at a user specified set temperature. This function is useful if you have a device that needs to kept at a specific temperature for optimal performance.
- Outputs 1 and 2 can be programmed to mirror one another. For example, if output #1 has been programmed to operate at 7º above dewpoint, then output #2 would come on and turn off at the same time as #1.
- Enable/Disable. Outputs 1 through 5 can be set to on or off at any time. This is useful if, for example, you are running fans to aid in cooling your optics and you want them shut off.
- LED brightness. The LED Display can be set anywhere from a low setting for nightime use to bright for daytime use.
REMOTE CONTROL
We have developed software that will allow the controller to be programmed and monitored remotely from a PC. You have all the usual programming functions available to you and the software has an intuitive user interface that makes it easy to program and monitor the controller. The software will create a log file that can be imported into a spreadsheet program. This is useful should you have any reason or need to determine the operational functionality of the controller or heaters.
Downloadable upgrades for the software will be available on-line.
The software is an option and is not provided with the controller. We provide the necessary cable to connect the controller to your computer. You can extend the reach of the cable using a standard telephone extension cable.

THE MICRO FIRELITE CONTROLLER
Our newest controller!
The MICRO FireLite Controller is the newest addition to our controller line and represents a new family of controllers and heaters for Kendrick. Designed for Astronomers and Astrophotographers who want the ultimate in lightweight, compact, Grab'n'Go gear. Ideal for use with small telescopes and DSLR Cameras.
Despite its small size, this controller is not small in its performance or build quality. It is not a cheap or flimsy controller. Well built and well thought out, it employs the same technology as its big brother, the DigiFire 7 but only in a much smaller package at a much lower price.
Why does it represent a "new family of controllers and heaters"? Due to the very compact design of this controller, we have had to go a totally new connector for the heaters. For this reason we have created a new heater line to go with this controller, the Micro FireLite Heaters.
Due to its size, the Micro FireLite does have some limitations. Those limitations are:
- It has a maximum load capacity of 1.5 amps.
- Room for two heaters only.
- The Micro FireLite heaters have a special connector that will allow them to connect to the Micro FireLite controller. Unless you purchase our special 2001-FL-ADP adapter cables, you can only use our Micro FireLite heaters with this controller. (See grey box below)
Can I use the Micro controller with my other standard Kendrick Heaters?
ANSWER: Yes, but you will need to purchase our 2001-FL-ADP Micro to RCA adapter. IMPORTANT NOTES:
- These adapters can ONLY BE USED with KENDRICK HEATERS. Use with a competitors heater will void your warranty.
- When using Premier or FireFly heaters, you MUST make sure that the total amperage of your combined heaters does not exceed 1.5 amps. We provide an amperage table for our heaters here.

| PREMIER HEATERS |
 |
We have heaters for virtually any optic used in amatuer astronomy and outdoor photography. As well, we have heaters for electronics to keep them functioning in cold weather.
The Premier Heater line is our flagship brand and our highest quality heater. They are built of the highest possible quality materials and the heaters are custom built to our electrical specifications. These are not off-the-shelf heaters! We use the best quality velcro, elastic and flex heaters available for this line. The cables are cold flexible down to temperatures of -40 and the cable housing is custom make for Kendrick to our specifications. Our competitors cannot make this claim.
Our heaters have been built to use only as much power as necessary and thereby not waste energy. They have sponge insulation and infa-red reflecting material on one side to help direct the warmth generated by the heaters into the optics. Because of this, less energy is needed to keep your optics moisture free.
Our heaters wrap around your optics, label side out and are held in place by elastic/Velcro attachments. Telrad and Rigel Finder heaters are held in place with an elastic band. The heaters for secondary mirrors, depending on which model you purchase, are either placed on the backside of the secondary and can be held in place by using the polyester batting found inside the secondary mirror holder (heaters #2016, 2017, 2018, DG-1, DG-2, DG-3) or will wrap around the secondary mirror stalk (heaters #2028 & 2028-S). The .965", 1.25" and 2" heaters are considered eyepiece heaters. The 1.25" and 2" are also heaters for certain camera lenses and binocular objectives. Larger camera and binocular lenses will, of course, require larger heaters. Newtonian Primary Mirror Heaters sit behind the primary mirror in contact with the back side of the mirror. Your mirror holder must be allow for removal of yor primary mirror to accomodate a primary mirror heater.
Below, we provide a breakdown of the wattage and amperage of most of the Premier Heaters we make. This will aid in choosing the correct controller for your system as your controller must be able to handle the amperage requirements of your heaters, no matter what controller setting you use. For example, if you set your controller to operate at 30%, the heaters will draw their full amperage 30% of the time. The other 70% of the time they will be off.
NOTE: Our competitors often quote what they consider the high power requirements of our Premier Heaters. It is important to note that the ratings quoted below are true if your controller is set to operate at a 100% setting. To clarify, if you set your controller to operate at 30%, the heaters will draw their full amperage, but only 30% of the time. The other 70% of the time they will be off. Also, these heaters are intentionally designed to generate more heat than our competitors heaters as they are designed to perform under ALL conditions.

| FIREFLY HEATERS |
 |
Kendrick's new FireFly heaters are designed for the astronomer who requires a dew prevention system that is both economical in price and power. Although unable to perform up to the high standards as our original Premier brand of heaters, astronomers and anyone else requiring heated optics for dew prevention can depend on our FireFly heaters to perform under all but the most demanding observing conditions. Note that if your observing site gets temperatures that approach freezing on the nights you like to observe, you should consider the Premier line of heaters.
Having lower power requirements than our Premier heater line, these heaters will extend the life of your battery between charges. Using a different heater technology but operating under the same principle as our Premier line of heaters, these heaters will mildly disperse heat into your optics without compromising the figure of your telescope or camera optics.
As well, because of our unique manufacturing process, the FireFly heaters will direct their heat into your optics instead of losing it into the atmosphere. We have had these heaters independently tested for heat transmission and the resulting images below clearly show the effectiveness of our build technology. These heaters are very effective in directing most of the heat into the optics which is important if dew is to be prevented.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Some competing manufacturers of low wattage heaters make claims that their heaters, with half the wattage of our Premier line of heaters, will perform just as well as our Premier heaters, and at a much lower price! Well, this is true to a point but once you get down to temperatures approaching freezing, forget it, it just ain't gonna happen! You cannot escape the laws of Physics. Half the wattage means half the power, end of story. We make no such claims about our FireFly heaters. They do have their limitations.

The above image shows the outward facing surface of a Firefly heater.
|
 |

The above image shows the inside, or optic heating side of a FireFly heater. This surface shows a +20º C difference from the outward facing surface proving the effectiveness of our manufacturing process in directing the heat into your optics.
|
We use high quality Velcro, elastic and connectors with these heaters. All the FireFly heaters come branded with our permanent, white identification label for easy identification in the field.

| MICRO FIRELITE HEATERS |
 |
Kendrick's new Micro FireLite heaters are designed for use with our new MICRO FireLite Controller. They have the special connector that allows them to connect to the FireLite controller (shown in the image to the right). It is important to note that any anti-dew heater with a RCA connector (this includes our Premier and FireFly heaters) will not connect with this controller.
IMPORTANT! The maximum amperage capacity of this controller is 1.5 amps. What does this mean? Basically it means that you will have to choose your heaters carefully, otherwise you will end up blowing fuses. All the heaters offered in the FireLite line are 1.5 amps or less. If you want to use two heaters with the FireLite controller, you will have to make sure that the total amperage of the two heaters does not exceed 1.5 amps. The amperage of the heaters is shown in the chart below.
Like all our other heaters, the FireFly heaters will direct their heat into your optics instead of losing it into the atmosphere. We use the same construction methods and materials as our Premier and FireFly heaters. These heaters are very effective in directing most of the heat into the optics which is important if dew is to be prevented.
So where do these heaters and the MICRO FireLite controller excel? See the partial list below:
- Anyone who wants to travel light with a small telescope.
- Anyone who uses a DSLR camera for astrophotography.
- Anyone who wants an inexpensive dew control system.
- Anyone who wants a compact lightweight solution for smallish optics where weight and balance are of importance (ie: Dobsonain secondary mirrors, finders, etc).

The Camera-Cozy package is an excellent, inexpensive, lightweight solution to dew prevention, frost prevention and electronic cold weather operation for anyone doing outdoor photography with a DSLR Camera.
The package includes everything (except a battery!) you need to keep your camera dry. You get the MICRO FireLite controller, a camera lens heater (for lenses up to 3" in diameter) and the DSLR Body Sock. The body sock is not heated but is constructed of cloth covered, waterproof neoprene. The sock also has two pockets, one to hold the controller and a second to hold the shutter remote control.
The loose fitting sock, which is anchored over the camera lens, can be easily lifted over the camera body to give access to the LCD Display, buttons, plugs and camera controls. The Camera-Cozy Body Sock may also be purchased separately, without the heater and controller.
How big a battery will you need to operate the Camera Cozy for several hours of operation? Assuming a MICRO controller setting of 100%, a 6 amp hour 12 volt battery will give about 9 hours of continuos operation before the battery will need recharging. A 3 amp hour battery would give about 5 hours of operation. Typically though, a 50% controller setting is more realistic, even in cold weather, so these times could be doubled.
We have two sizes of Cozy's and Cozy Packages.
- For the smaller Canon Rebel EOS type cameras, order:
- Part #2001-FL-CC if you want the Camera-Cozy body sock only
- Part #2001-FL-DSLR if you want the complete package.
- For large bodied DSLR cameras such as the Canon 50D, order:
- Part #2001-FL-CCL if you want the Camera-Cozy body sock only.
- Part #2001-FL-DSLR-L if you want the complete package.

| HOW TO USE THE SYSTEM |
 |
Put your heaters in place at the beginning of an observing session with the standard controller at or near its lowest setting. This should be good enough for most observing sessions. The high setting is only recommended for removing moisture already collected on your objectives or for cold winter nights. If moisture has formed on your optics, put the standard controller on high and wait 15 to 30 minutes for the optics to warm up. SCTs should clear by then, refractors can have excess moisture removed with a tissue. You can then reset the standard controller to a lower setting.
| POWER REQUIREMENTS |
 |
We recommend, as a minimum, that a 12 amp hour rechargeable battery be used with this system. For information on our battery packs, see the Kendrick Power Pack. If you are planning to use your own battery, it is recommended that a deep cycle battery be used.
For individuals wanting to use household current, we have several 120v converters that put out 12vdc at 4.5, 7.5 and 10 amps. We do not offer any converters that will work with 220-240v mains current. If you already own a converter, it must be rated for the amp requirements of your system. For example, if your system draws 1.5 amps, then your converter must be rated for at least 1.5 amps.

| AMP HOUR RATINGS |
 |
Please bear in mind that the following table of amp hour ratings is to be considered accurate only if the standard controller is set at high. Under normal operating conditions these ratings can be reduced by 40% to 60% as the normal standard controller setting is medium to low.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that the standard controller is fused at 5 Amps
and you cannot put a higher load on it without blowing the fuse. Looking at
the Amp Hour Ratings table, one can see that certain combinations of heaters
will go over 5 Amps. In that case more than one controller will be required
since the total load on a single controller should not exceed 5 Amps.
